MOTIVATION 101: BOUNCE BACK FROM FAILURE
Failure is our greatest teacher. Well to be very honest, failures are inevitable. As long as you aim big and take risks to achieve those ambitious goals, you will fall. Now, you have an option to construe this fall as a failure or an experience to learn from. Your attitude has a lot to do with how you deal with your failures.
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall” – Confucius
What intrigues me is, as we grow up, we religiously start enacting the proverb “Once bitten, twice shy”. Just give it a thought. Remember the time when you were a kid, learning to walk, learning to talk. Well, I know you cannot possibly remember it all but we are all aware of the fact that we had a tough time learning these acts. We possibly had to fall a million times just to get back up and try again. And voila! before you knew it you were able to stand on our own. The reason I brought up this episode from our infancy was that we experience these falls in our adulthood too, though unknowingly. But as we grow up, We grow conscious of people around us. We grow susceptive of their thoughts about us and this changes a lot.
This changes the way we deal with these situations. We either become too afraid to fall or we fall alright but lose the enthusiasm and will to get back up for a simple fear of ‘what will others think?’. Understand this, life is not made of successes. It is an amalgamation of success and failures. One cannot exist without the other. You will have to cope with your failures to enjoy your success. That is how it works and there is no way around. The sooner you learn it, the better. However, there are ways to help you learn how to prepare yourselves to embrace your failures, learn from them and turn them into your strengths and today we are going to talk about them.
1. OWN YOUR FAILURE
Accept the failure. Only when you accept and make peace with the fact that you have failed, will you work on it. Hence, do not hesitate in acknowledging it.
2. DO NOT LABEL YOURSELF AS A LOSER
Failures are a part of your pursuit. You win some, you lose some. As hard as it might be to get over the losses, do not hold on to them as results of your incapacity. Think of them as a move that you lost in a game and prepare for the next strike. Taking the failures to your heart will only cause you to lose your focus. It does not achieve anything.
3. ANALYSE WHERE YOU WENT WRONG
When you fail, it is time to reanalyze your game plan. Just go back and recount what you did, not from your perspective but from the perspective of an observer. Find the reasons that made it fail, correct them and start over again.
4. NEVER REGRET
Do not Regret your failure. It should never come to your mind that you shouldn’t have done it. Regret will only make you think that it is over for you, but remember, it is never too late and it is not over until you say “It is over”.
5. MAKE MINDFUL DECISIONS
Your life is not a result of your circumstances. It is a result of your decisions. Life is unfair and unpredictable but not black and white. Even the darkest of clouds have silver linings. When you hit rock bottom struggle harder because there is only one way you can go and that is upwards.
To sum it up, If you fail at something and have the grit to rise up again, you are growing. If you blame and sulk over the loss, you have stunted your growth. Do not give up.
Keep Hustling! Keep Growing!
